The goal is to accelerate the transition to fossil-free shipping.

Very few couples get six months of holiday a year with their partner — it feels quite luxurious. It is also great fun to be serving on sister vessels. If we need a second opinion, we often call each other: 'How do you interpret this procedure?”, says Josefine Radonné. Welcome Sanna Tovar to a newly created position as Environmental Controller! With environmental data collection and emissions reporting now centralised within the technical department, we can strengthen our environmental and climate work even further. ”I will be part of a team looking at the full picture of how to streamline our operations and make better environmental choices, when running the fleet today and designing the vessels of tomorrow. We analyse our use of on-board machinery, different bunker fuels, and so on — like the effect of connecting to shore power in port versus running on biomethane.” Previously serving as Technical Coordinator, Sanna will now take ownership of all environmental performance reporting across frameworks including EU MRV, FuelEU, and IMO DCS. "I find this genuinely exciting — it is both rewarding and demanding. I can see the real-world impact of decisions we make and how different measures interact. Furetank is highly progressive in this space; we are driven by a genuine ambition to operate as responsibly as possible. We’re busy putting the finishing touches on our 2025 sustainability report — rounding up a year of progress across environment, climate, safety, crew welfare, gender equality and more. We’ll be sharing highlights with you here! Test platform for ocean health: Furetank has applied a new biocide-free, graphene-based coating from GIT Coatings to the hull and propeller of M/S Sigrid. The vessel is specifically designed for the safe transport of radioactive waste and operated by Furetank on behalf of Svensk Kärnbränslehantering AB (SKB), an assignment which requires a solution free from toxic bottom paints.   As Sigrid is dry-docked annually for inspection, she offeres an excellent test platform for the treatment: a copper-free, high-slick anti-fouling solution designed to cut drag and boost performance. Early results are promising — reduced biofouling has been observed, and in 2025 the ultra-low-friction coating delivered a significant reduction in fuel consumption. Proud fact: Did you know that the number of female seafarers in Furetank's fleet has tripled in the last three years? "Summing up this development feels fantastic. Women are represented from the roles of mess stewards, cooks, trainees and cadets all the way up to the highest-ranking officers in the engine room and on the bridge. We see strong interest from female maritime students — they view shipping as an exciting industry, where women may not previously have seen their place", said Furetank HR Director Yvonne Höglund. But progress isn't just about numbers. It's about creating an environment where everyone feels welcome — and staying honest about the challenges that still exist. As we wrap up another busy week at Furetank, we’d like to say thank you for two great visits to our office. We welcomed a group of knowledgeable international journalists and shared Furetank's latest news and developing stories in sustainability, innovation and resilience. We really appreciated the thoughtful questions and genuine interest in the opportunities and challenges facing shipping today. We also enjoyed hosting our friends from the Göta Älv Club who joined us for a walk down memory lane, as we traced Furetank’s journey from the fishermen of earlier generations to today’s state-of-the-art tanker fleet. Even if our furriest co-worker got a little tired along the way... Flag flying high as we head into the weekend — and dare we hope that spring is just around the corner?

A yearly highlight: @sjolog at @chalmers.university – now celebrating its 20-year anniversary. We feel that shipping students grow more ambitious and curious every year! We brought along Felicia Liljeroth and Josefine Radonné who approached us at Sjölog last year, expressing their interest in joining Furetank as interns. Today, they are both sailing with us as 2nd Officers and excellent ambassadors. A special mention goes to this year’s lucky winner of our popular Furetank quiz, who walked away with a highly sought-after suitcase: Jacob Woidt. He too has completed an internship with us, so we consider this a well-deserved trophy.
