Press invitation: Furetank VINGA vessel naming ceremony and tour of a state-of-the-art tanker

The Furetank intermediate tanker fleet continues to grow, contributing to the expansion of the Swedish-flagged merchant fleet — vital to securing national supply resilience.

Media are invited to attend the naming ceremony and tour of the newly built tanker FURE VASA at the Port of Uddevalla on 28 August. An additional news announcement will be made on the day, affecting the Swedish merchant fleet.

FURE VASA is the 18th vessel in the VINGA tanker series and was developed by Furetank and FKAB Marine Design in Uddevalla, celebrating 40 years of shared vessel design.

The two companies have jointly refined all vessel technology since the the 1980s, striving to lower energy consumption and stay ahead of international environmental and climate regulations. The collaboration has produced the VINGA series: the most energy-efficient vessels in their class globally, according to the UN's International Maritime Organization (IMO). Furetank runs the vessels primarily on liquefied biomethane within the EU. They are fully equipped for shore power connection covering all operations in port.

This record-breaking series of 22 vessels ordered to date attracts both co-investors and customers on the strength of its industry-leading environmental technology and high technical performance. Like a number of VINGA vessels, FURE VASA is owned through a joint venture between Furetank and Canadian shipping company Algoma Central Corporation, known as Furebear.

FURE VASA joins the Swedish merchant fleet, contributing to national resilience and security of supply. Minister for Infrastructure Andreas Carlson commented on the delivery:

"Furetank today announces that it is registering a new vessel under the Swedish flag, with more on the way. It is encouraging to see the Swedish-flagged fleet grow — now standing at 105 vessels. This is good for Swedish shipping, national preparedness and competitiveness, and will gradually open the door to more Swedish seafarers.”

The naming ceremony will be held for specially invited guests and press. We will also have some exciting news to share with you on this day.

Journalists are welcome to attend the ceremony, take a tour of the vessel and conduct interviews. Representatives from Furetank, FKAB Marine Design and Uddevalla Harbour terminal will be available on site.
