Furetank releases 2025 sustainability report
The Furetank Sustainability Report is now released for 2025: a defining year in the company's sustainability journey. A decade has passed since the first VINGA series vessel order, designed for a future powered by renewable fuels. In 2025, this vision was finally realised and the Furetank fleet reached the 2040 EU greenhouse gas intensity targets — a full 15 years ahead of schedule.
In the report, you can read about how…
… Furetank made a large-scale agreement for mass-balanced liquefied biomethane (LBM), enabling an immediate transition to renewable propulsion.
… Our EU-based, gas-powered vessels transferred to operations on this certified biofuel, delivering more than 100 per cent greenhouse gas savings on a well-to-wake basis.
… Emission reductions from the Furetank-managed fleet equalled the FuelEU Maritime requirements for 170 comparable, older intermediate tankers operating on marine gas oil.
… Furetank was selected as one of three finalists for the 2025 Biogas Award, recognising key contributions to the development of biogas in Sweden.
… Furetank established a FuelEU pool, acting as pooling manager and trading the compliance surplus to help other shipping companies that lack the current ability to achieve compliance.
… The company took delivery of four climate-efficient VINGA vessels, added to Furetank’s FureBear joint venture with Algoma Central Corporation.
… Furetank participated in an OCIMF working group that issued guidelines for shore power connections for tankers in June 2025, in order to accelerate international standardisation and implementation.
… A new biocide-free, graphene-based hard foul-release coating was applied to the hull and propeller of a vessel, resulting in reduced biofouling and significantly lower fuel consumption.
… Furetank continued innovating, refining and developing all onboard systems together with our equipment providers, implementing updates to further reduce emissions
… Furetank took part in the largest civil–military maritime defence exercise since the Second World War, aimed at strengthening Swedish resilience at sea.
… The HSQE/Vetting team was expanded with two Marine Superintendents, to serve the growing fleet.
… A Chief Information Officer was appointed, with a strong focus on strengthening cybersecurity across the company, both ashore and on board our vessels.
… An intranet was launched for all Furetank staff, to bridge the perceived distance between employees at sea and the shore-based support organisation, and give everyone greater insight and influence over their working environment.
… A historic milestone in gender progress was reached, with 31 women serving across all ranks and a threefold increase in the number of women in Furetank’s crews over three years.
… Lockers with free menstrual products were installed on all vessels to promote an equal and inclusive working environment.
